We’re a recognised exam centre for RGT, LCM and RSL — meaning our guitar students sit their grades on site rather than travelling.

Acoustic guitar
Singer-songwriter chord work, fingerstyle, folk, country, blues — whatever direction you want to take an acoustic. Our tutors will teach you to play the songs you actually want to play.
Electric guitar
From clean indie to driving rock, blues, funk, metal and beyond. Our studios have amps and PAs so electric players can plug in and play properly from day one.
Classical guitar
Traditional classical guitar repertoire and technique — ideal for students aiming for LCM or RGT classical exam grades.
Bass guitar
Often overlooked but essential to any band. Lessons in groove, technique and theory across all styles.
Mini-lessons (ages 6 to 8)
15-minute one-to-one lessons for younger players — smaller hands, shorter attention spans, gentler pace.
One-to-one lessons (ages 8 to adult)
Weekly 30-minute lessons with a tutor matched to your style. Adults are very welcome and make up a large part of our guitar student body.
An exam centre for RGT, LCM and RSL
Being a recognised exam centre for three boards is unusual in Sheffield. It means our guitar students sit their grades on site in a familiar setting rather than travelling to an unfamiliar venue:
- RGT (Registry of Guitar Tutors) — gold standard for graded guitar exams.
- LCM (London College of Music) — wide repertoire, classical and contemporary pathways.
- RSL (Rockschool) — contemporary rock, pop and bass tracks. Higher grades carry UCAS points.
Of course, exams are not compulsory and many of our guitar students never take one.
Take it further — Play-In-A-Band
Once you have a few months of guitar under your belt, our Play-In-A-Band classes (ages 8 to 19) let you play in a band with other AS Music School students. We also run Adult Bands and a Rock & Blues Group. Performing with other people is the fastest way to grow as a guitarist — and one of the most fun things you can do with the instrument.

A S Music School is a local exam centre for nationally recognised guitar exam Grades in Acoustic, Electric, Classical, Rock and Bass Guitar with UCAS points counting towards university entrance for higher grades. We teach Rockschool and RGT guitar grades at all levels from beginner to Grade 8 and beyond.
