Music Lessons for Beginners in Sheffield
Starting an instrument is one of the most rewarding things you can do at any age — but it can also feel intimidating if you’ve never played before. At AS Music School in Woodseats, we welcome complete beginners every week. Our tutors are patient, friendly and brilliant at making those first lessons enjoyable rather than overwhelming.

Don’t know which to start with? That’s fine — give us a call and we’ll talk you through what works for the age and what’s likely to suit you or your child. Some students try one instrument first then add another. Some swap entirely after a few months. There’s no wrong starting point.
Beginner lessons for every age
Ages 3 to 6 — Early Learning Group Classes
30-minute group classes designed for the very youngest beginners. A free starter pack of materials is included. A gentle, fun introduction to music.
Ages 6 to 8 — Mini-lessons
15-minute one-to-one lessons designed for younger beginners. Smaller hands, shorter attention spans, gentler pace — but proper foundations from day one.
Ages 8 to adult — One-to-one lessons
Weekly 30-minute lessons. Most beginners are surprised how quickly they’re playing recognisable songs.
Adult beginners
A large proportion of our beginners are adults — please don’t think you’re “too old” or that you’ve “missed your chance”. You haven’t. Many of our most enthusiastic students started in their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond.
What to expect from your first lesson
Every new student is offered a free first lesson — there’s nothing to pay and nothing to commit to. You’ll meet your tutor, see the studios, get hands-on with your instrument, and get a feel for whether AS Music School is right for you. There’s absolutely no pressure to sign up afterwards. We’ll hold the slot for 24 hours so you can think it over if you’d like.

Early Learning Music Classes
Why not bring your little musicians to our early learning music lessons especially created to give 3-5 year olds a head start with their Music Education.
In our Stave House small group classes your child will learn to read music and begin to play Piano, Violin or Ukulele at an early age.

Adult Beginners

We have a great community of adult students and have social nights throughout the year for them to get together and play some music.
