Whether you’re picking up a guitar for the first time or working towards your next grade, AS Music School in Woodseats teaches guitar to all ages and all abilities. We’re based on Cobnar Road, S8 8QB — five minutes from Chesterfield Road and easy to reach from across south Sheffield. We teach acoustic, electric, classical, rock and bass guitar, and we’re a recognised exam centre for RGT, LCM and RSL.

Guitar lessons for every age and style
We teach the full range — from first chords to grade 8, and from gentle classical to driving rock. Lessons are tailored to what you actually want to play, not a one-size-fits-all syllabus.
Mini-lessons for younger players (ages 6 to 8)
Fifteen-minute one-to-one lessons designed for smaller hands and shorter attention spans. A friendly, low-pressure introduction to the instrument.
One-to-one guitar lessons (ages 8 and up, including adults)
Weekly 30-minute one-to-one lessons with a tutor who matches your style — whether that’s acoustic singer-songwriter, electric rock, classical, blues, jazz or something else entirely. Adults are very welcome — many of our guitar students are adults learning for the first time or returning after years away.
Acoustic, electric, classical, rock and bass
If you’re not sure which direction to go in, your tutor will help you choose. Many of our students learn more than one style over time. We have practice rooms, amps and PAs on site so electric players can plug in and play properly from day one.
Guitar exams in Sheffield
Because we’re a recognised exam centre for RGT, LCM and RSL, our guitar students sit their grades on site rather than travelling. So whether you want a contemporary rock-and-pop track (RSL/Rockschool) or a more classical pathway (LCM, RGT), we can support you. Higher grades carry UCAS points which can support any university application. Exams are not compulsory and many of our guitar students choose never to take one.
Take it further — join a band
Once you’ve got a few months of guitar under your belt, our [Play-In-A-Band classes] let you join a band with other AS Music School students aged 8 to 19. We also run Adult Bands and Rock & Blues Group for older students. Performing with other people is the fastest way to grow as a guitarist — and it’s a lot of fun.
